The 10 best autumn /winter coats and jackets in the shops (so far)
Letching over them, like they're The Bear at The Emmys, I am. But which will I buy? Which will YOU buy?
It is time to think about winter coats and jackets. I mean, praise be for the last gasp of summer September’s awarded us - anything else would have been terribly cruel - but it won’t last for much longer and anyway, a new jacket and/or coat is fashion’s consolation prize for the unbroken bleak, bitter misery of the next six months.
Herewith, the coats and jackets by which I am currently obsessed, the ones I have open in tabs floating around various devices, the ones my algorithm keeps bringing up Over All Platforms, lest I forget to spend more money I definitely Do Not Have on things I definitely Do Not Need (but very much want).
Aligne’s Stella Wool Coat in Olive £329
Ugh, how much do I LOVE Aligne? Very very much indeed. It’s a young brand, couple of years old I believe, maybe a smidge more, but it’s absolutely up there among my faves on account of aesthetic, but also - crucially - production. This is a label which makes great looking, properly cool, properly useful pieces - and it makes them well. Every last thing I’ve got from ‘em has endured, ended up looking better with a little wear than it did, box fresh, and melded with the existing elements of my wardrobe like a dream. I LOVE THIS COAT. I love the colour - think how well that’ll play as the days draw in. Think how sweet it’ll be over denim! - I love that single button, I love the drama in the hem, I love it’s blokey overtones, especially with reference to the lapels. It’s the most expensive of my selection, but I know it’ll be worth it, and anyway, it looks WAY more expensive than it is. My only reservation is: I got a yellow brown heritage check overcoat from Aligne last year, which I still adore with every fibre in my being, and this one might be too similar to warrant the space in my overloaded wardrobe. That, however, may not stop me. I know this about me.
