The One Thing You Need To Build THE Perfect Autumn Capsule Wardrobe
By a woman who knows what she's talking about (me)
It’s almost autumn, which means a seasonal shift in dressing is afoot, which means it’s time to think about building a Capsule Wardrobe (again). Capsule Wardrobes, as you probably already know, are a concept - a belief system, really - a sense that every last one of us only really needs, like 12 to 16 (including shoes) separate Bits in order to Get Dressed; 12 to 16 exquisitely chosen articles – The Jeans, The Top, The High (ish) Shoes The Low Shoes the knit the skirt the belt yadda ya, which, when combined with wit and flair and an uncanny understanding of good silhouette composition, when mixed and matched and styled and reimagined from one week to the next, will easily see you through even the darkest depths of winter, during which, you’ll just need to fling that Investment Piece* camel wool overcoat you bought over a decade ago, yet which never lets you down (that’s how well you chose it), on, over them. The capsule wardrobe is a pinnacle of fashion accomplishments, once you’ve nailed it, you kind of know you’ve arrived in style terms. You’ve got your own Look so very, very down, along with such a realistic and practical understanding of your lifestyle, of the circumstances and situations into which it might lead you, you’re just never caught without a decent outfit option. How could you be?
For those of you who have not, quite yet, managed to construct an accomplished Capsule Wardrobe, come closer… Cos I’m going to tell you the one thing you need to know, before you start.
